To describe our growing up in the lowcountry of South Carolina, I would have to take you to the marsh on a spring day, flush the great blue heron from its silent occupation, scatter marsh hens as we sink to our knees in mud, open an oyster with a pocketknife and feed it to you from the shell and say, 'There. That taste. That's the taste of my childhood.' - Pat Conroy

First Beach Day of the Year

I love beach days when there are no plans to get in the water. When there are no lunches or snacks to pack and when there aren't crowds and crowds of people to dodge just to find a place to set your stuff down and lay on a towel. That was the case yesterday. It was obviously too cold to get in our swimsuits and pack beach towels, with that being said, there weren't many people out and about. We knew we just wanted to walk on the sand, I wanted to take pictures and Cadence wanted to collect seashells, so that's just what we did.

A cloudy day, in my opinion, is a great photo day. You don't have to compete with the sun, you can just snap a picture anywhere without worrying about a harsh glare. Simply perfect, we even caught a dolphin swimming near the shore!

There was a small stream that the ocean tide had made, and naturally, we all had to jump across it. It was a lot wider than the pictures give it justice and Cadence, being the cautious child she is, just didn't think she could do it.

So the best dad award goes to...

...sweet boy jumped back over, picked her up, and then jumped across with her in his arms. I will say, she jumped back all by herself :)

Yesterday was a great day. My most favorite day from the weekend. Saturday was good too, but any day at the beach takes the cake! On Saturday I did manage to score a $168 Lilly Pulitzer top for $12 at a local used clothing store. It's a gorgeous elsa top in her day lily pattern. I still cannot get over that price tag and the blouse is in excellent condition.

All three of us had a major sweet tooth going on after a little thrift store shopping and the thought of beignets did us in. It was quite chilly on the Savannah riverfront so a hot cappuccino and warm beignets hit the spot.

What a wonderful and blessed weekend we had. Church, as always, was uplifting. It never fails that the messages talked about on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights are just what I need to hear.
