To describe our growing up in the lowcountry of South Carolina, I would have to take you to the marsh on a spring day, flush the great blue heron from its silent occupation, scatter marsh hens as we sink to our knees in mud, open an oyster with a pocketknife and feed it to you from the shell and say, 'There. That taste. That's the taste of my childhood.' - Pat Conroy

Cadence turned 7!

This year was the first year that we didn't have a birthday party for Cadence. I didn't go out and buy decorations. I didn't get tons of little pastries or finger foods. I cooked a simple meal of spaghetti with a side salad and garlic toast and ordered her a cake from the bakery and you know what...it was great!

We invited our parents over and two aunts and their families over who lives nearby.

It was simple, no stress on me, no extra spending with decor and food. It was fantastic and she loved it!

...and this morning Olly was caught eating some leftover birthday cake. Silly elf!

  1. Wow I can't believe she's already 7! Sounds like a low key birthday was the perfect way to celebrate!
