To describe our growing up in the lowcountry of South Carolina, I would have to take you to the marsh on a spring day, flush the great blue heron from its silent occupation, scatter marsh hens as we sink to our knees in mud, open an oyster with a pocketknife and feed it to you from the shell and say, 'There. That taste. That's the taste of my childhood.' - Pat Conroy

Goodbye 2013

New Year's has never been a big holiday in our family. Heck, I don't even stay up until midnight. It's just not our thing. With that being said though, I'm excited for 2014 and to see all of the blessings it will bring. I'm not one to obsess over resolutions, but I do try and make lists of certain things to work on throughout the year. Some times they stick, and other times they don't. It's about being patient and truly trying your best and giving it your all.
Here is my list:
/ Read the Bible \
/ Go to Church, Regularly \
/ Be a More Godly Woman \
/ Spend More Time with Cadence \
/ Quit Cursing \
/ Don't be Quick to Anger \
/ Save Money \
/ Travel to a New Place \
/ Quit Smoking \
/ Don't be Quick to Judge \
/ Keep a Journal \
Whether or not I succeed in these, I am going to try. Smoking is a terrible habit and one I know I need to quit, but to be honest I'm not going to go cold turkey tomorrow, I will gradually quit. It's easy to say you're going to go to Church regularly, but just like the journal, you will keep up with it for the first month or two and then sleeping in on Sunday morning sure sounds nice...terrible, but trying is key! Never give up on being a better person.
With all of the positive energy being said, here is one last bitch rant for the year...why not?
Yesterday I could have got off work at noon, but a man said he was going to stop by to pick up some pieces he had ordered so I stayed, all freaking day until 5 for him to not show up at all. I was so mad!
//
I am sick and tired of every person, that know Tarl and I, ask if we are having more kids. Telling us we should. That we shouldn't wait too long. Only kids are this and only kids are that. I'm to the point to where I'm just going to punch them in the face. We are raising Cadence with the upmost respect. She is polite and will make plenty of friends in school and through out her life that if she doesn't have a sibling, I'm sure she will be okay. I feel like telling these same people that their kids are in dire need of a good spanking or time out. If it's God's will for more children in our future, then it will happen, if not we are perfectly content with the most beautiful girl in the world!
//
I hate when someone cancels plans. It drives me nuts. If I take the time to arrange my schedule, then you should take the time to do the same. I get that things happen and plans change, but when it happens 9 out of 10 times with the same person, you have to start questioning why.
//
People who blast their music, need to drive off a cliff. It drives me batshit crazy. Picture it, Savannah, last weekend, guy in his 1998 Prelude blasting some rap music that I can't even begin to comprehend or sing along with. I politely blasted Jake Owen's, "Anywhere With You". Guy in the Prelude, you can suck it!
//
Our BBQ place in town is only open Thursday - Saturday, however I love their food. They piss me off though. Your food is delish, but we can only eat it on certain days...bullshit you temptress!
//
Tarl wanted to watch The Walking Dead series. I explained to him that I only like to watch shows like that once they are completely done, this way I don't have to wait a week, or season for the next episode or for it to come out on DVD. Well my wonderful husband decided to go out and by the first season, just assuming we wouldn't get into the show. I'm the dumbass who watched it with him. Needless to say we are on the last DVD of season 3, and season 4 just started on AMC in October...they also got renewed for a 5th season. This patience thing is a real bitch!
//
Didn't I say I was going to try and quit cursing? Wow, tomorrow is the New Year, so I'll just wait until then. Easier said than done, for sure!
I'm taking a New Years blogging break until Monday. It will be my first blog post of 2014.
See you then.

Christmas Recap and Mani

Our Christmas was amazing. The only negative thing to say about it was that it went by way too quickly, but I guess that's what is so special about it. On Christmas Eve Tarl, Cadence and I did some last minute shopping and found this cheap snowman that you build and he melts, repeat steps one and two until your child is bored with it, which in this case, lasted six hours. We had some giggles with him though. It's basically a soft putty so it melts pretty quick.

See what I mean...

It's tradition in our home to open up one present on Christmas Eve. We do this as soon as we wake up. Cadence got Sand from Brookstone. It's real sand mixed with a few other ingredients, similar to play-doh, but it doesn't stick to your skin and is so easy to clean up. We love it just as much as she does!

We also hung out around the fire...in typical lowcountry fashion.

Christmas morning I opened up some sweet gifts from Tarl. My most favorite though was probably my Home T. You can find most any state here. The shirt is super soft too. I'm in love!

Santa brought her lots of toys, but her most favorite was sitting outside...

She got a lot of build a bear gift cards for Christmas, so the day after we let her go and get the newest member of our family, Diamond Princess.

The moment I first saw this mani on pinterest I was smitten, I knew I had to replicate and this weekend I did just that with cheap nail polish that lasts until you remove it, Sinful Colors. You can find this at your local drug store for around $2. You'll need Snow me White and Gold Medal. For the gold sparkles I used Mariah Carey's O.P.I 2013 Holiday Collection color, All Sparkly and Gold.
Winter white with Gold.

It's not flawless, but I'm not a manicurist and it works for me! Perfect NYE manicure on a dime!

Cheers to the New Year {Final Recap}

Peach State of Mind

Hey lovelies, this is the last installment in Cheers to the New Year.  I am most excited about this one because these are my three favorite months, October, November and December! I am the type of gal who likes to go and do and see, and these three months we are doing all three! If you missed the rest of the year, you can catch up with me here:

 October is my 2nd favorite month of the year! Fall has officially arrived, and so has cooler weather here in Carolina, along with boots, scarves and non-humid (good hair) days! I love Halloween and it's also my birthday month! I got some goodies this year!

For my birthday I just wanted a relaxing day target shooting, redneck? Maybe.
I got to target shoot in my new boots though, love them!

These boots are originally $100, right now they are on sale for $60!
You can find them here.

My boss and his wife gave me a lovely statement necklace along with a gift card, plus some very kind words, which doesn't get much better than that to me!

Halloween came and went. Cadence was a witch, isn't she just precious?

I went completely original and was a cat (sarcasm font people!)

Of course, you'd know that already if you follow me on Instagram, just sayin.

Thanksgiving arrived so quickly this year it seemed. A lot of family, friends and fun times around the fire! Lots of laugh and memories I will hold in my heart forever.

Then before I knew it, December was here and I was and still am so very happy about this month, my very favorite month of all of them. I just love Christmas time and everything that it embodies. The smells, sights, lights, that cheery feeling you have deep down in your soul. Just love it!

We also celebrated our most favorite of birthdays, Cadence's. She turned the big 5 this year!
We are beyond blessed to call her our daughter.

The husband spoiled me by letting me open up an early Christmas gift, another pair of boots that I've been eyeing! Link to buy here. Unfortunately these aren't on sale, but you do get free shipping!

Cadence met the big guy!

While y'all are reading this post, I'm most likely spending some QT with the fam, off work, thank you Jesus! Thank goodness for scheduled posts, right!

Please link up and have fun, can't wait to hear all about your Christmas!

Merry Christmas Eve Eve

It's the day before Christmas Eve! How exciting!
Here's what Olly has been up to...

Day 29 was the funniest so far, he drew a mustache on Cadence while she was sleeping! She was not happy about this, but it was hilarious! It's hard to believe that Olly has just one more day with us, stuffed toy or not, you truly get attached to him and the fun that he brings your child!

Cadence got to open up her gift from my sister, she loved it!

Spoiled much?

I get off work today at noon and am taking off the rest of the week. During this time I will also be taking a blogging break for Christmas. Don't worry though, I have a scheduled post for Thursday for the final recap of Cheers to the New Year!

See y'all on Monday!

I pray each of you have a very Merry and Blessed Christmas! Remember Jesus is the reason for the season! Much love to all!

Cheers to a New Year (July, August, and September)

Peach State of Mind

In this installment of Cheers to the New Year, we're recapping July - September. To be honest, these are probably my least 3 favorite months of the year. I am all about holidays and vacations, and we do neither during these months. We normally vacation in either March or October, and the only holiday in this quarter is July 4th. South Carolina is extremely hot, muggy and humid, so this girl right here doesn't have good hair these months either, however, let me turn my debbie downer attitude around, because we still have a blast during the Summer here in Carolina, and here's what we did this year!
We enjoyed plenty of days and nights riverside! (If I posted all of the pics, this post would never end)

Cadence by no means does pageants, especially the glitz pageants on TV, their just not for us. However, she does do a coupe of local pageants in our area, and she won both!

Football began, both Gamecock and my nephews local highschool team! I had no voice for most of August!

Headed to the game...

We had fun at the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia!

And we trespassed on a cotton field on the way home, I blame it on the photog coming out in me!

My monogramming spiked out of control at the end of August!

For reals, Cadence wore a shirt with her name on it all 3 of these months!

I went to visit my Aunt in St. Augustine in September. To say we had a blast, is an understatement, although my credit card is still on fire from the spending !

My final three and favorite months are getting recapped next week, don't forget to link up and tell us all about your Summer!
