To describe our growing up in the lowcountry of South Carolina, I would have to take you to the marsh on a spring day, flush the great blue heron from its silent occupation, scatter marsh hens as we sink to our knees in mud, open an oyster with a pocketknife and feed it to you from the shell and say, 'There. That taste. That's the taste of my childhood.' - Pat Conroy

Friday...You Mean FriYay!

Whew...I'm glad this week is in the books. Not a rough week but I'm sure not going to complain now that Friday is here. Plus it's only a half day at work and then I'm off to see my little rascal have her hoedown at school. I mean how precious is that going to be?!

As promised here are my Easter decorations. I am loving the colors that are in my house right now. Pastel everything! Excuse the crappy pictures but it was night outside when I took these and it's not like I was pulling out the Nikon to snap a few pics, so iPhone pics are what you're getting :)

My apothecary jars are my most favorite things for decorating. I bought these one at a time when Michael's had their 50% off one item coupon as these pretty little things are not cheap. Each holiday I fill them to the brim with something relevant and what says Easter more than eggs?!

Cheap garland from the dollar store on the mantle along with a precious little bunny that Cadence made - note that big pink bow on the bunny :)

I got the pennant at Target for $3 - love that dollar spot!

The big vase and faux hydrangeas are from Michaels.
The Easter sign is from Target and the little pink vase and tall egg bouquet behind it I made with products from the dollar store. #cheap #budgetdecorating #loveit

Tiny vase and faux daisies from, you guessed it, the dollar store. The burlap egg tree is also from Target.

My chalkboard talks about the entire purpose and reason for the season, the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! He is not here, He has risen!

Bunny chair covers, $1 @ the dollar store.

I'm so ready to see Cadence's class put on their hoedown presentation. They've been practicing for weeks and seeing all of her classmates dressed like cowboys and cowgirls this morning was just precious!

Cadence's birthday is in December. We always start discussing party ideas around March and when we have settled on one by April I start buying little things here and there. I take a lot of pride into her birthday parties. I want friends and family to walk into our home and know immediately what kind of party they are attending. Is it a princess theme? Winter wonderland? I just love planning a party and Cadence adores helping me decorate and preparing but let's be honest, parties are not cheap and the older your children get the more pricey they get as more people attend, thus more food, etc.

She's already started talking about her birthday this year and right now she's loving anything farm themed. Hey, it works for me and there are so many cute decoration ideas on Pinterest.

It's great, because I can start buying bandannas and hats early. They make great party gifts for all your guests instead of the usual gift bag. #giddyup

officialunitedstates:unclefather:babypinkacrylicnails:unoriginal-origins:swiked:katze-geht-meow:ijustloveyoutubers:trinititties:snacksandharts:swiked:littlewotsit:swiked:guys please help me - is this dress white and gold, or blue and black? Me and my friends can’t agree and we are freaking the fuck outSo I just looked at this like, it’s blue and black obviously and all my friends were like no it’s blue and gold. Now I’m super confused, what is eyesight?

I see it as white and gold. My friend right here sees it as blue and black. I CANT HANDLE THIS

if that’s not gold my entire life has been a lie

I am seeing Blue and Black, how are people seeing it different? Is there some sort of mind sorcery happening here?! :o

Okay, wtfi just saw it as gold and white which was weird bc earlier it was blue and black so i thought maybe ye were fucking with me but i went to reblog and now its blue and black again?!1? I AM GOING TO CRY

My class just had a debate over this. Half sees black and blue, the other half sees gold and white. Someone please explain this…

SPREAD THIS UNTIL IT REACHES NASA WE MUST FIND ANSWERS

WHAT IS THIS WITCH CRAFT

I see black and blue wtf how is anyone seeing white

I’m completely lying for notes but this looks like a hotdog. Reblog if you see a hotdog

i see the hot dog but did anyone else notice bigfoot in the back

WHAT HAS HAPPENED HERE

So if you haven't head (although I'm sure you have by now) two people can sit in the same room, in front of the same computer and look at this picture and see two different colors on this dress. From what I've heard if you see a blue and black dress you are more stressed and if you see a white and gold dress you aren't. I see a white and gold dress plain as day. What do you see?

I'm so happy that today is Friday, and only a half day at work. What a great way to start a weekend. I hope each of you have a blessed and happy Friday!

Thursday Thoughts

As soon as Easter is over and my entry table is free I will be lining up three Ball mason jars and putting this gloriousness on that table! Something so simple (mason jars, paint and flowers) can turn into something so darn pretty! I am so smitten with this easy DIY and cannot wait to put into fruition.

Love mason jars

The gold is pretty too. I would prefer pink flowers in the gold mason jars as well because gold and pink together are gorgeous, but I honestly prefer the metallic silver over the gold.

I am slowly starting to prepare my packing list for New York and it's not an easy task. I'm an over packer, there I said it. I'm that girl who packs 4 pairs of shoes for an overnight trip, yep, that's me! With that being said we've also never flown before and thus never had to check bags and had a limit to what we could bring. Sure I could pack a ton of luggage but at $75+ for extra bags, not going to  happen! With that being said it helps me if I write what I'm going to wear each day and night. This way I know exactly what to pack and what to wear. I'm not a fashionista by any means of the word, but this is NYC and I want to look my best. Thank goodness for Pinterest and the several hundred ideas I've gotten just by skimming through. My favorite this week? Chambray. I love the many different looks you can accomplish with a chambray top. I purchased mine from Target for $20 over a year ago and it's such a big closet staple for me. I can mix and match so much with that one top to create an assortment of looks.

It’s time for another Cute Outfit Ideas of the Week! This one is dedicated to breaking the age old rule of not wearing white after Labor Day. That rule is so yesterday. White Denim is actually quite awesome for putting together some great fall looks. If you need some outfit inspiration for wearing white denim …

White jeans, gray top, chambray, & ankle boots. Not wearing those pants correctly with ankle boots though

That pop of neon with the chambray is stunning and I personally would have never paired the two together. I also love this list of 20 ways to style Chambray. #7, #14, and #19 are my faves, the only change with #19 would be to wear a pair of wedges instead of flats, y'all know I like to be in some tall shoes :)

My monogrammer just sent me a picture of Cadence's Easter basket. She is still going to add polka dots but she knows I'm impatient so she sends me sneak peaks. This is why I love her...

I didn't want to get an Easter themed because we're going to use the basket for other things once Easter is done (storing toys, bows, etc.). I love it and I know one little girl whose going to love it too!

I bought purple Easter grass today. It's the paper kind, not the plastic kind. I got it from the dollar store for $1 per bag and I personally prefer the paper shreds better to the plastic, they're easier clean up as they don't stick to you when you go to take the items out of the basket. Thus far I've purchased a monogrammed Princess Belle shirt to go inside the basket as well as a Princess Anna dress. I'll fill the rest with little treats from Target or the dollar store.

And I leave you with this...

So true

Midweek Randoms

Happy hump day friends. Actually, I hate that expression. Blame it on my mind 'always being in the gutter'...so with that being said, let's move on to some midweek randoms...

Living a skip away from Savannah you'd think I'd be all about St. Patrick's Day but to be honest, I can't stand it. The parade, the crowds, the shoulder to shoulder beer breath, puke sound and pee smell does not appeal to this gal. Call me lame, that's fine, it's just not my style. I'll take a warm fire in the back yard with my friends and family any day of the week over that, which brings me to my point, my house is ready for Easter and I love it. It may be only 40 degrees outside but inside my house Spring has sprung with pastels and eggs galore. I've also ordered Cadence's Easter basket, monogrammed of course (is there any other kind?) Second to Christmas, Easter is my next favorite holiday. Plus the meaning behind the reason we celebrate Easter is the most important - Christ's Resurrection! As always, if you'd like to know more about Jesus, please email me. I'm not perfect by any means of the word and I fail Him daily, but I praise his name always.

Blog fail however, no decorated house pics...will share this week though.

Speaking of Easter, have you seen the new Easter egg kits by Paas?

PAAS® Monograms

I mean...this has made my monogrammed lovin' southern heart burst! Monogrammed eggs? Yes please!

I also saw this on Pinterest this morning, pinned immediately and will be making these for breakfast on Easter morning! You need those condiment dispensers to ensure you get clean lines and FYI you can buy those at the dollar store for a buck.

I am loving this LC Lauren Conrad skirt that is on the Kohls website right now. This skirt is perfect for Spring and Summer. Pair it with a pastel button down (tucked in) and some nude pumps or sandals...swoon!

Confession, I'm a nail biter. Always have been except for about 3 months last year when my nails were long and strong and I didn't bite them and then my mama went in the hospital and goodbye nails! With that being said, I am splurging on myself and getting my nails done prior to our NYC trip. I'm loving these Essie colors right now and may just snag one of these for my mani. Thoughts?

My mind is telling me the nude but my pink obsessed heart is saying Just Stitched. Still time to decide...either way this girl is about to get some long nails.

I had a gentlemen come into my office yesterday stating that he and his wife were leaving this morning to go to New York for an extended weekend. After speaking for a moment we realized that we had the same vacation planned. They are staying at the exact same hotel as Tarl and I and had a lot of the same itinerary that Tarl and I have. I'm sure they have checked into their hotel by now and are enjoying the city...one month folks. The days are slowly dragging but it'll be here before I know it. I made all of our dinner reservations this morning and cannot wait to dine on some of our favorite Food Network chefs eats...

Friday Night: Bar Americain (Bobby Flay)

Has anyone else been watching The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills this season? I've been an avid follower of the show since it first aired and here is what I think of this seasons ladies:

Kyle - Love her. Thought she's been a classy, fun, true friend sort of gal from season one.

Lisa Vanderpump - I loved her until she and Brandi formed a friendship. Now that she no longer has Brandi influencing her behavior, she's back in my good graces. Can we talk about her wardrobe and closet for a minute? Ugh...I mean...freaking love it!

Lisa Rinna - Thoroughly enjoying her this season. I think she's honest and is friendly to everyone. Watching the previews for next weeks episode though, wow, she looks like she is ready to kick Kims ass, not saying that's a bad thing.

Brandi - I honestly liked Brandi after a few episodes. Once she opened up about her life and how that has affected a lot of the way she is I sort of understood. I loved reading both her books and again, that explained a lot, but it's all lost now. Can't stand her. She seems like that person who tries to get friends just to have someone on her side. Own your shit!

Eileen - I'm still up in the air about Eileen. She seems like a good voice of reason, similar to Yolanda, but there are also times when she comes off very 'holier than thou', snobby if you will. We'll see...

Yolanda - Again, another person I've liked and disliked. So far this season I'm really liking Yolanda. It seems as if she's making a conscious effort to get a long with everyone and tries to make everyone get along. I think she is slowly starting to see Brandi's true colors, not sure how that will span out, but the excuses she uses with Brandi have to stop. Seriously V, B is a grown woman and I'll say it again, she needs to own her shit.

Kim - I empathize with what she's going through. Although divorced, this man was once your husband and the father of your children, you will always love him and for what he is going through and I'm sure what she's feeling, I do empathize, however her bitchy tone and hypocritical behavior makes me want to fast forward my DVR when her parts come on. A sister is supposed to have your back, regardless. You may have issues with your siblings, Lord knows I've had issues with mine, but at the end of the day their your family, their your blood and I would never let anyone bad mouth about my family to me, hell no! It blows my mind that she gets angry with Kyle for talking ill about Brandi or trying to bring her into it. Well hate to break it to you Kimmy, but Brandi and you do the exact same thing. Again, own your shit! Kyle may not blatantly tell someone to shutup when they start talking about Kim, but she will tell them to take it up with Kim themselves or stray away from the conversation.

These are obviously just my thoughts on the show. I love how I can like one person one minute and are disgusted by them the next. What do you think? Whose your favorites right now?

//

I have to share what I thought was a funny to you ladies who read my blog. If any men do read I urge you to stop as 1) it's TMI and 2) you just won't understand.

Let me preface by stating I have never been regular with my menstrual cycles. Twenty eight days...psshhh, not for me. I can have a period that lasts 7 days and doesn't rear it's ugly head until 3 months later and then I can have two periods in one month. Never have been that on time, every 28 day, circle it on your calendar, girl. With that being said I've also never had your usual period symptoms. I'm not a fan of chocolate, so that's never phased me. I don't really bloat or get a headache (your usual symptoms), so with all that, I never know when I'm going to start.

The other night I made brownies for Tarl and Cadence. They love them, so I made them. While they were baking they smelt divine. Once they were done and fresh out of the oven I couldn't wait. I cut two of those bad boys, put the piping hot chocolate on a paper towel and shoved them in my face. After 15 minutes I went back and did it again. I started sweating thinking I was pregnant as I'm not a fan of chocolate and knew this was a bad craving. I went to make sure I had been taking my birth control and phew, I was on point...needless to say I guess those years of not having symptoms have caught up with me. I'm now bloated like a blowfish and have probably gained 10 pounds by eating brownies, kit-kats and Wendy's frosty's the past few days. I've also had cramps from hell but that's another story in itself, also the two pimples blemishes on my face are a wonderful addition to all this sexiness that's going on #sarcasm

//

Our sweet girl is having a 'hoedown' at school this week. The children are dressing up as cowboys and cowgirls and they are dancing and putting on a presentation for all the parents. I cannot wait to see this. Tarl and I are so blessed to have a child who loves school and blessed to have her in a school that is attentive to the care and needs of her as well as receiving a great education. I was so wary of her starting school because she's always been with a family member. She never attended daycare or preschool, but I'm so very happy that it's a suiting fit for all three of us and that they take the time to put on these little things and include the parents. I know I enjoy seeing the classroom, facilities and meeting other parents.

Yasss

Each week a star student in Cadence's Kindergarten class is honored. This week it was our sweet girl. On day one you get to bring in a special show and tell object and also wear your most favorite shirt. On day two you get to bring in your favorite snack to share with the class.

Today is day one and naturally she chose her princess castle shirt.

Each week they also have a theme, and this week it's 'farm life'. Which was perfect because her special show and tell were baby bitties that were born on our farm two weeks ago. Tarl took them in for her to show and video recorded it for me. It was beyond precious listening to her tell her class about baby bitties. Little farm girl!

//

As of this morning we are now in the 20s until our New York City trip. It was great writing 29 compared to the 100 I wrote when I first started. Now I just have to get over my fear of planes!
Wish me luck on that one...

//

Y'all, I have watched this video at least a dozen times and it still cracks me up every time. I love voice overs for cat videos! #yasss

I'm sorry that this post is so short for the day, and for my lack of posting last week. To be honest, writers block is real and I've not had much to post about. Happy Monday!

Life in the Lowcountry's 10 Ways to Save for Disney

The biggest question I get from friends and family members when we go on our Disney vacations is, "how do you afford it?" The answer is easy and I wanted to share...

Okay, so the first may sound silly but it is beyond true. One - Officially book your trip! Once you put down your $200 deposit the trip gets real. Sounds silly doesn't it? What I mean is, book your deposit, whether it be on a credit card, Disney gift card, or if you have an extra $200 in your bank account.

We live paycheck to paycheck and the thought of $200 out of thin air isn't realistic. We have a mortgage, tuition, car payments, etc. What we do is put down our deposit by saving a little here and there or on a credit card. Once the trip is booked and you have an official date, the savings get real, and quick. You somehow realize that you don't need to eat out on the weekends as much as you did, because that $60 you would have spent on dinner can go towards your vacation. Eating lunch on a daily basis averages around $7.50 per day. That's $37.50 per week and $150 per month - that's one heck of a payment towards your vacation! Once we booked I've done nothing but bring meals from home. Leftovers from the dinner before and by doing that I've already paid $60 towards our trip this Fall. It's crazy how quickly it adds up!

Two - Disney has promotions and great discounts - use them! Last year we saved around $1000 by getting all of our food for free. It was such an amazing feeling saving that much money for my family by making one simple phone call. Free Dining is never guarantee'd, but they have offered it the past ten years so hopefully it will be back for 2015 *fingers crossed*. Even if Free Dining isn't a current promotion, they often have different discounts to offer, such as a percentage off your package or a room discount. These things add up to save you hundreds of dollars. The best advice I can give is to join a Disney Vacation FaceBook group or groups. There are tons to choose from. My family personally travels in the Fall, so I joined a few vacation pages that are focused towards that time of year. Just type in the search bar and you'll find hundreds of groups. I know it can seem a bit nerdy, but I would have never heard about free dining last year had I not joined. I'll be a nerd if it means saving money!

Ahh, the Disney Dining Plan - my favorite. You get one Quick Service, one Table Service and one Snack, per person, per night of your trip. It's a lot of food and it's all delicious. You also get free Disney Resort mugs when you check in and can get free refills throughout  your entire trip, as much as you want, at any Disney resort.

See those mugs Tarl and Cadence are holding? This was at Animal Kingdom Lodge, which was not our resort. We wanted to venture out one day and see the different resorts and it was nice knowing we could fill up at any resort, not just our own. Drinks at Disney are not cheap, so having these mugs to refill at no cost and getting them as a souvenir was great, and such a great bonus to the dining plan.
We tallied up our total of what it would have cost us in drinks alone had we had to pay, and it was over $200, that's crazy! - but again, it was included in the dining plan and thus, free!

Which brings me to three - if you only eat enough to keep a bird alive, don't get the dining plan!
Eating is part of the experience for us. The character meals and fun ambiance is wonderful and something we look forward to every day. It's not only a fun thing to do, but it's also great to just sit down and relax after being in the parks. I cannot stress enough how essential the dining plan is for our family, but again, that is for our family. We used our snacks for breakfast, our quick service credits for lunch and our Table Service meals for dinner, but you can switch it up to suit you and your families needs. There are some days we have our Table Service as a breakfast. That's the great thing about the dining plan, it's up to you on how you want to use it.

For our trip this Fall, since we're staying for 8 nights, we will get

8 Table Service meals per person
8 Quick Service Meals per person
8 Snacks per Person

However, if you are used to only eating a lite snack and then a dinner, the dining plan isn't for you. It's a lot of food and if you don't eat a lot and do not use all of your dining credits, it's pointless and a waste of money. My mother in law and sister in law went a week before we did last year. They hardly ate at sit down meals and would order a pizza that would last them two days. It's not for them and that's OK. Again, you need to do what fits your families needs. My family will not go without the dining plan.

We saved every receipt from our meals, including snacks. If we would have had to pay out of pocket for all the food we got it would have been $1,500+, again we got it for free! Love the dining plan!

Another question we got was, "is the food good?"

The answer is simple - yes! And these aren't even half of our meals.

The great thing about Disney is they care a lot about what their clientele thinks so if something isn't up to par, let them know and not only will they resolve the issue, they will make it better. The mashed potatoes one night were on the colder side, not only did my waiter send it back, he brought me hot mashed potatoes and double the size - amazing!

Four - Disney Gift Cards, buy them, buy them, buy them!

Every time I have some extra cash and am standing in line at Target, I grab a $25 Disney Gift card, Tarl does the same. Granted, this is not every time we shop there, because like I said before we live paycheck to paycheck and some times $25 isn't available, but when it is, we buy them! The other day while standing in line at Target with a tutu in hand (for Cadence's dance class), I was skimming through the magazines, searching for a pack of gum, and there I saw the gift cards. I snatched up a $25 Disney card and bought it. It's now sitting in my wallet waiting to be spent in September. I told Tarl my idea and he said it wasn't bad. He walked into Home Depot on Saturday to grab some light bulbs for the house, came out to the car where I was waiting and handed me a $25 Disney Gift Card.

See what I mean, we just booked our trip and already have $50 in spending money for when we get there. Whether the money be spent on souvenirs, the Halloween Party, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique or whatever, it's paid for with gift cards and takes a weight off my shoulders without having to worry about how much money I have in my bank account when we go.

Five - buy merchandise before your trip!

If you have a child anything like my daughter, then they want stuff, but again, what child doesn't? Disney merchandise isn't cheap, but it is double, sometimes triple the price in the parks. Cadence loves dressing up in Disney dresses and dresses in the park are beyond our budget. I've always purchased her dresses prior and we pack them on the trip. It seems trivial, but it's a great way to save. For Christmas 2013, she got her Belle dress which was $60 off the Disney website - I saw the same dress in the parks for $110! Disney t-shirts in the park start at $30, you can get similar tees at Target and Walmart starting at $4!

I knew Cadence would want some pajamas while there. That girl loves new PJs and mama and daddy didn't have money to spend every day for new PJs, so Tinkerbell left her new PJs every night of the trip. Tinkerbell found them at Walmart, on sale, for $5!

These are her favorite and she still wears this nightgown 3x a week!

Christmas 2014, Santa brought her a Little Mermaid dress for around $40. In the parks you're looking at around $80! Remember, every little bit adds up which brings me to six - don't spend beyond your means.

This is a tough one, because what parent doesn't want to get everything their child wants? Case in point - Cadence really wanted to do Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique last year and have a princess makeover with the works. That package starts at $200. wow!

We have taken Cadence to Disney twice before and we give her the option,  you can go to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique or get a special prize each day. The last two times she has chose the daily prize. We financially cannot afford both. Honestly they both equal out to the same so it's one or the other.

Last night we asked her again, and she said this time she's going to choose BBB instead of the daily prize. I figured as much. She's at that age where everything is princesses and makeup - who can blame the girl? Who doesn't want to be a princess?!

Some times you have to make choices like that. It doesn't mean that she won't get any souvenirs this trip, it just means she won't get one every single day. If you don't have the extra money, don't feel bad. You're in Disney, and you've taken your family to Disney, that in itself is more than enough. Any extras are just that.

FYI - if you want to do BBB, there are several options that aren't nearly as costly as the entire package. Some packages start at around $40, and you can always bring your own dress in the parks if you cannot afford to buy one while there.

Seven - it rains in Florida!

It rained three nights of our trip. Two of those nights it was a quick storm and we were eating dinner at the time, but on one night it just down-poured. Buy ponchos prior to your trip like I did, at my local CVS for $3 for the child size and $4 for the adult size. Disney knows it rains, and often, and their ponchos are around $10 a piece...no thank you!

Last year we stayed for 6 nights/6 days. This year we're staying for 8 nights/7 days. That's a lot of time on vacation, and quite frankly that's a lot of clothing to pack. Eight - don't splurge on new clothes for your trip.

This is another tough one. It doesn't matter if you're going to Disney or the Caribbean, when we think vacations, as women, we think new clothes and a wardrobe to match the occasion. Don't waste what could be valuable vacation money on clothes you don't need.

The resorts have laundry rooms, and I know the thought of doing laundry on your vacation is not a fun one, but I promise you, it's not long at all. If you're going for a quick trip then this isn't necessary, but for us it's a must. Florida is hot and you sweat. Jeans are a no-go and shorts are a necessity. I don't have 8 pairs of shorts to wear those 8 nights and I'm not going to spend good vacation money on 8 pairs of shorts, when I can pack a few tide pods for the trip along with a few dollars worth in quarters for the laundry machines.

Nine - plan some non-park days! On our last trip we spent one entire day not at a park. Granted we did end up going to MK that night to watch the fireworks, but I digress...the resorts are beautiful and you can what I call "resort hop" which is basically where you go to each resort and look around. It's absolutely beautiful to see each resort and what they have to offer, and it took us half the day. We spent the second half at Downtown Disney, which is free and does not require a park ticket. It was great taking that time away from the parks and looking around. If your budget is tight when planning your trip, just remember, just because you're vacation is 7 days, doesn't mean you need to purchase 7 days of park tickets. Try purchasing only 6, and spend that one day venturing to other places. That one day can save you a lot when booking a trip!

My last piece of money saving advice is Ten - pick your resort wisely! Okay, who doesn't want to stay at the Grand Floridian or Contemporary Resort? They're huge and gorgeous and so close to Magic Kingdom you can almost touch it, but they're also around $600 per night, crazy right?! Just because you're going on a vacation doesn't mean you have to spend that kind of money on a room per night, especially when most of the time you're only in your room to shower and sleep. Disney offers three different resort options to fit every budget, Value, Moderate and Deluxe. We have always stayed at the Moderate resorts. They offer a bit more than the value resorts and it's within our price range. If you can't do the moderate resorts, by all means choose a value, they have some super cute value resorts that will go with whatever your families style may be. Every evening we like to go back to the resort to relax for an hour or so, and in my opinion the moderate resorts offer more of a quiet environment, along with bigger beds, so it fits our needs, however, that doesn't mean the value resorts aren't good, because they truly are great in their own right.

Don't think you have to break the bank by booking a deluxe because it's a vacation. In fact, in most of the Disney groups I'm a member of, people who have stayed at all three of the resort options, have said that the moderate resorts are some of their favorites, that's including the deluxe category.

Don't get me wrong though, one day we'll stay in the Contemporary, one day...

Well, there you have it. A list of 10 ways to save and help budget for your Disney vacation. I know some seem trivial, but from personal experience they add up and quick! I like to think of it like this. Let's say you have an extra $2 per day (Monday - Friday). That's $40 per month. In a nine month span that's $360 - see how even $2 per day can add up? $360 is a lot of spending money for a trip, so don't take $2 and spend it on a pack of gum or energy drink, stash it in a piggy bank for your next trip to see the mouse!

Speaking of the mouse, in the words of Mickey...

See ya real soon!

Valentine's Recap / 50 Shades Movie Review / Monogrammed Goodness

Bella And The City

Happy Monday folks.

I'm actually not dreading it today and that's because I'm well rested. I should be after going to bed last night at 7! I was exhausted as soon as 6:30 hit. It just came over me. We didn't do much this weekend or stay out late so I was worried I was getting sick since I was so tired. Well as soon as 7 hit I couldn't fight it anymore and just went to sleep. I didn't wake up until the alarm went off at 6:30 and even then I hit snooze and didn't get out of bed until 7. A full 12 hours sleep was glorious and much needed. I got up, energized and ready to start the day. Don't get me wrong, who wants to be at work, but it's good being at work and not being exhausted!

Friday evening we stayed in town and went and spent some time with my brother and his lady. We enjoy their company and always have a good time spent with them. Saturday morning I woke up to two tickets to 50 Shades of Grey, along with a Japanese dinner planned and a lovely card. Tarl also got Cadence a pink plush bear holding a heart. I purchased Cadence a Disney princess valentine along with some heart shaped suckers and a card and got Tarl some heart shaped Reese's cups and a card. We kept it simple, but I was very surprised to see the movie tickets because from day one Tarl refused to go see the movie, he pleasantly surprised me :)

The movie and dinner wasn't until later that evening so we enjoyed the sunny day on Saturday. It was quite chilly and windy but Grandaddy bought Cadence her most favorite valentine present, her very own wheelbarrow. Long story short, she loves playing with his wheelbarrow on the farm.  She thinks she's something when she's pushing that thing around, so when he surprised her with her very own size wheelbarrow, she was just smitten.

I have been a 50 Shades fan ever since the books became a hit here in the US. I read the first book in one day cover to cover. The second book the second day and then Fifty Shades Freed on the third day. I couldn't get enough of the books and re-read them as soon as I finished them. They were that good in my opinion.

As  soon as I heard they were making a movie I was ecstatic.
I followed the entire process, including interviews with the book writer and obviously, when they chose the cast. I had no qualms about Jamie Dornan playing Christian or Dakota Johnson playing Ana. I actually thought they fit the bill pretty well. I know a lot of people were upset by it, but I thought they portrayed the characters well.

Again this is just my opinion of the movie...

I liked it. Did I love it? No, but I did like it. Let's face it, the book is always better then the movie. I cannot name one movie where the book wasn't better, not one, so going into the movie I kept that in mind. I did like the movie though, I thought they played the characters well and I thought the director kept pretty close to the story lines of the book, but I also read the book so it was easier for me to fill in the blanks and read between the lines.

Tarl did not read the books, and if I put myself in someone's shoes who did not read the books I could see where there is a lot that didn't get explained or a lot that they wouldn't understand.

I felt that there was a lot of information that was not included in the movie that is very relevant and important to someone who did not read the books, that they left out. So being a person who read the books, the movie was good. If I had not read the books, the movie wouldn't have been good. It probably would have even ranged on the verge of boring.

After the movie Tarl had so many questions that I had to answer because the movie left out those important little details to where as the book did not. Tarl didn't care for the movie, but as soon as I answered his questions he said he would have thoroughly enjoyed the movie had they added that information.

Ultimately, I preferred the books. However, if a second movie is made like it is supposed to, I will see it in theaters. I'm still a 50 Shades fan and I still love me some Christian Grey :)

Inspired Flair on Etsy is one of my favorite shops. Her monogrammed shirts, outfits and bubble necklaces have stolen my heart and I've been a fan of hers for quite some time, even ordering from her on more than once occasion. She reached out wanting some more exposure for her shop in return for some monogrammed goodness, so who could resist?! If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, over the next few weeks I'll be showcasing one of her items per day, so be sure to follow by clicking on the links to my accounts in the sidebar.

I'll also be pinning some of her projects on Pinterest, so follow me there too :)

With Valentine's being over, it's onto Easter for our household. How amazingly cute are these monogrammed shirts?

Swoon!

She made this shirt for me for our Disney trip last year.

Cadence still wears this shirt all the time and the quality is superb. I cannot wait to get her some more Disney shirts made for our upcoming trip this year.

It's definitely worth checking out!
