To describe our growing up in the lowcountry of South Carolina, I would have to take you to the marsh on a spring day, flush the great blue heron from its silent occupation, scatter marsh hens as we sink to our knees in mud, open an oyster with a pocketknife and feed it to you from the shell and say, 'There. That taste. That's the taste of my childhood.' - Pat Conroy

Thanksgiving Recap | December is Here!

Bella And The City

Thursday morning we woke up bright and early to see that Olly, our Elf on the Shelf, had arrived back to our home just in time to enjoy Thanksgiving!

He brought Cadence a lot of care bears and even a care bear DVD.
Although you're not supposed to touch your Elf, Olly did say it was OK just this one time so he could see himself on TV @ the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.

After we had our morning coffee and watched the parade it was time to start baking. I love coming up with beautiful, delicious creations that everyone loves and who can go wrong with a cornucopia filled with fruit or a triple berry trifle?

I even made my first ever pumpkin roll with homemade cream cheese. It barely made it to lunch at Tarls parents home before he ate it all. I guess it was good :)

The day before Thanksgiving we went to a local farm and picked our own collard greens. It was so fun seeing Cadence walking the rows of greens with her daddy and Grandaddy.
We also went riding around our little home town, we even stopped on the railroad tracks for a quick photo shoot - gotta love a railroad track snapshot!

We enjoyed a lot of time with family, both Tarls and mine. We also spent time skeet shooting and stories around a fire...just how we like it.

It seemed like Thanksgiving Day went by in a flash. But we enjoyed every minute of it. It was chilly and windy but the sky was blue and perfect. Cadence enjoyed playing on the farm and her swingset up until the sunset that evening - what a great Thanksgiving Day spent with family and loved ones!

On Friday morning the three of us woke up and ventured to do some Black Friday shopping. We only stopped in to Gymboree but scored six long sleeve t-shirts, a nice puffer coat with a hood and a pair of jeans for Cadence all for $25. Definitely worth venturing out in the cold with the crowds.

Olly got into my leftover trifle and ended up with whipped cream all over his little face :)

That night Cadence was off to mema's house for the weekend. So Tarl and I decided to head to Savannah and go to the Melting Pot for dinner. I love one on one time with my guy!

Just in case you were wondering, Olly followed Cadence all the way to mema's house. She woke up Saturday morning to Olly riding on one of mema's reindeer decorations.

Her cousin, Olivia, joined her for a fun filled day that mema had planned which included a paining class! Cadence loved it! They painted Rudolph and on Sunday morning Olly decided to paint a Rudolph too!

On Saturday night Tarl and I went to our favorite Japanese restaurant and then went and watched the Savannah Lighted boat parade. It was beautiful when you went over the bridge, seeing all the ships lit up with green, red and white twinkly lights!

Unfortunately our sweet girl woke up Sunday morning not feeling well. She still has a mild fever, cough and runny nose. Tis the season I suppose, not to mention Kindergarten germs. Daddy is staying home with her today and I pray she starts feeling better soon - please pray she does.

Even though she isn't her usual self, Olly still surprised her this morning, seeing as how December is finally here, by giving her one book each day to read until Christmas arrives!

The first book that he wanted her to open is called "The Little Girl who lost Her Name" and it spells out Cadence's name at the very end. We had a little extra time this morning with her not going to school so we read it and she loved it!

I strongly suggest this book for your little ones - they'll love it.
You can find them here.

All in all, Thanksgiving was great, but I am so excited that December is finally here and the Christmas festivities can officially begin, as soon as our little gal starts feeling better!

I hope you and your family had a blessed Thanksgiving holiday!

Happy December!
